Chromium leaching experiments were conducted using soils rich in chromite ore processing residue (COPR). Experiments were performed with acrylic columns under a constant hydraulic head and a free board, while air was continuously purged through the influent solution to create oxidative conditions in the soils. The study found that the mass of Cr(VI) leached was significantly influenced by temperature, with an acceleration of the leaching process observed at temperatures exceeding 8°C. Under conditions of an influent solution pH of 4.3 and temperatures from 3 to 38°C, the total mass of Cr(VI) leached varied between 0.206 and 0.260 mg/g, representing approximately 1% of the total Cr content in the soil sample. Additionally, a one-dimensional transport model was applied to simulate the leaching of Cr(VI) from the soils. Simulation results indicated that the leaching process was governed by adsorption/desorption mechanisms and was impacted by redox reactions, highlighting critical pathways for chromium mobility in contaminated soils.
