Umicore Precious Metals Refining operates an integrated precious metals smelting and refining plant in Hoboken, Belgium, which has transformed from processing complex concentrates to focusing on recycled industrial and consumer products, making it the largest recycling facility for precious metals globally. This transformation involved significant technological innovations over the past decade, including the commissioning of a Pb-Cu smelter that accommodates various feed types. Additionally, the Precious Metals Operations (PMO) were enhanced with a new Cu-leaching and electro winning plant along with an upgraded refinery, aimed at optimizing throughput and maximizing yields for gold, silver, and platinum group metals. The Base Metals Operations (BMO) adeptly process by-products from the PMO, efficiently recovering valuable elements such as indium and tellurium. The plant adheres to stringent environmental standards through advanced waste management techniques. Umicore’s comprehensive recycling services emphasize sampling, assaying, metals management, and logistics, which have been recognized with various ISO certifications.
