In this study, the effect of mechanical activation was evaluated on the leaching efficiency of copper sulphidic concentrate in 0.5 M sulphuric acid medium. The mechanical activation of samples was performed by a high energy planetary ball mill under atmospheric conditions. Results indicated that there was an optimum mechanical activation time of approximately 6 hours, which led to a maximum leaching efficiency of 42% after 7 hours of leaching. This enhancement in leaching efficiency due to mechanical activation can be attributed to the significant reduction in particle size and the intense structural disordering of the particles. The findings contribute to the understanding of hydrometallurgical processes for copper extraction, highlighting the importance of process optimization in improving leaching outcomes.
