This study explores the bioleaching capabilities of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, a bacterium known for its role in biohydrometallurgy. The objective was to investigate its versatility in metal recovery from various substrates. Utilizing a series of experimental setups, isolated strains of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans were subjected to different environmental conditions to assess their efficiency in leaching metals like copper and gold. The methodology included measuring metal concentration in solution over time while monitoring pH levels and bacterial growth. The results indicated significant variations in bioleaching efficiency across different strains and substrates, with some strains exhibiting remarkable capabilities in metal solubilization under specific conditions. This discovery of strain-specific bioleaching potential opens avenues for optimizing acidophilic microorganisms in biotechnological applications, particularly in the sustainable recovery of valuable metals from mining waste. The findings contribute valuable insights into microbial bioremediation strategies and have broader implications for environmental sustainability in mining industries.
