Abstract

Language:

In this paper, we investigate methods to produce a saleable magnetite concentrate with a sulfur level below 0.20% and recover sulfur concentrate from high-sulfur magnetite ore. The objective is achieved through flotation and magnetic separation tests. The study establishes optimum flotation conditions, which include a grinding fineness of 90% particles passing 0.074mm, a pH of 6, and the addition of 400 g/t of CuSO4 along with 400 g/t of combined collectors. The results demonstrate that under these conditions, the sulfur grade of the magnetite concentrate is reduced from 3.20% to 0.18%, while the iron grade is enhanced from 57.29% to 71.17%. Additionally, a sulfur concentrate with a sulfur grade of 38.05% and a recovery of 91.32% is produced. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis reveals that CuSO4 aids the formation of hydrophobic Sn2-/S0 and Cu+-xanthate, which significantly improves pyrrhotite floatability. This study highlights the enhanced separation efficiency using a mixture of collectors, resulting in improved sulfur recovery and the adsorption behavior of collectors, along with increased hydrophobicity of the pyrrhotite surface.
