Abstract

Language:

In today's photovoltaic industry, obtaining silica sand with very high purity is essential. This study aims to investigate the effects of acid leaching on the removal of impurities from silica sand. A mixture of HF/HCl/H2O in a volume composition of (1:7:24) was utilized as the leaching agent. The material obtained was characterized through Ultraviolet-Visible absorbance (UV-Vis) spectroscopy and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The results indicate a significant reduction in the amounts of undesirable impurities such as cobalt, iron, calcium, aluminum, and magnesium present in the natural silica. This technique offers an effective and economical approach to enhance the purity of silica, which is crucial for the production of high-quality solar-grade silicon in the photovoltaic sector.
