Law No. 4 of 2009 and PenMen ESDM 7/2012 serve as foundational guidelines for the acceleration of research and technological advancements in metallic mineral extraction processes aimed at producing pure metals, particularly copper cathodes. This study examines the various processes involved in copper mineral extraction, including beneficiation, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy. These methods, while effective in producing copper cathodes, result in the generation of waste materials such as SO2 and slag, which can negatively impact the environment. In light of rising production costs, energy consumption, and environmental concerns, it becomes crucial to identify and map each stage of the copper extraction process to select environmentally friendly alternatives. The research highlights the potential of using chemical solutions and bacteria to develop more sustainable extraction methods. The collaboration among universities, industries, and government institutions is emphasized as a pathway to fulfill national policies regarding the integration of upstream and downstream industries. Ultimately, this integrated approach aims to enhance self-sufficiency in copper production, optimize resource value, and improve human resource capabilities, thereby fostering a competitive and sustainable business environment while adhering to legislative mandates.
