This technical report provides comprehensive background information on leaching processes utilized in the mining industry, specifically focusing on in situ leaching techniques for uranium and copper extraction. The objective of this report is to elucidate the mechanisms and applications of in situ leaching, as well as its effectiveness compared to traditional mining methods. The methodology incorporates a review of the geochemical processes involved in leaching, along with the historical context and development of in situ leaching since the 1960s. The results presented in the report highlight that in situ leaching offers significant advantages, including reduced surface disturbance and elimination of waste-rock generation, as metals and valuable minerals can be extracted directly from the ore deposit without extensive excavation.
