The kinetics of copper leaching from a chalcocite--covellite ore have been investigated. Leaching was carried out in sulphuric acid solution at different pH values and particle sizes, in the presence of ferric sulphate leached from the ore. Three stages of leaching were established. The apparent activation energy shows a dependence on the period of leaching and the pH value of the solution. An attempt was made to determine the rate-determining steps according to both the activation energies and the analytical expressions for each period.
