Abstract

Language:

In oxygen steelmaking, the dissolution of flux in slag is crucial for effective impurity removal and the longevity of the refractory lining. This study examines the kinetics of flux dissolution under full-scale operating conditions, specifically investigating the impact of slag composition and stirring intensity induced by CO gas bubbles. Utilizing a numerical approach, the research validates a model against industrial data previously established by Cicutti et al. The effects of particle size and flux addition rates on the dissolution kinetics were explored to enhance the understanding of flux efficiency at high temperatures. By addressing these specific factors, the study contributes to the optimization of fluxing processes, allowing for better operational control and efficiency in steel production. The findings highlight previously unreported effects of gas generation on flux dissolution dynamics, offering valuable insights for future applications in metallurgical practices. Overall, this research provides a deeper insight into the interactions between slag and flux, advocating for improved methodologies based on the complex real-world conditions of industrial operations.
