Abstract

Language:

The demand for Cu-Cr base alloys is increasing significantly due to their mechanical, metallurgical, chemical, and electrical properties, posing a research interest in improving these qualities. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical behavior and wear characteristics of C18150 copper rods extruded using the conform extrusion process, transitioning from a feedstock rod diameter of 12.5 mm to smaller diameters of 10 mm and 8 mm, without any post-treatment or artificial aging. Mechanical and microstructural tests were systematically conducted on the extrudates. Results indicate a significant enhancement in mechanical properties as the diameter was reduced to a specific dimension, which was likewise reflected in microstructural characteristics and hardness measurements. Additionally, wear test results demonstrated similar trends as observed in mechanical properties, suggesting that the conform extrusion process effectively enhances both the mechanical strength and wear resistance of Cu-Cr-Zr alloy rods. This research elucidates the potential benefits of conform extrusion over traditional methods in the processing of copper alloys, making a significant contribution to material science and engineering applications.
