This paper presents the design and implementation of an assistive device to monitor car drivers under extreme conditions, specifically in preparation for the 2012 Atacama Solar Challenge held in the Chilean desert. The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of a monitoring system that integrates physiological and ambient sensors, employs real-time processing algorithms, supports wireless data transmission, and enables a remote monitoring station. Methodologically, the study entailed the design of the telemetry system, capturing critical driver health metrics during racing conditions, and assessing the system's performance in real-life scenarios. Preliminary results highlight the implementation challenges and the effectiveness of real-time monitoring, showcasing significant insights into the physiological impacts of racing environments on driver safety and performance. The findings underline the necessity of comprehensive telemetry systems that not only assist in ensuring driver well-being but also enhance overall race safety. This research contributes to addressing the limited reports on pilot monitoring during solar car competitions, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety protocols in extreme racing contexts.
