This study addresses the critical economic question of determining which portion of a copper deposit at Sarcheshmeh should be sent to leaching units, thereby optimizing the leaching cutoff grade. To achieve this, the authors conducted a thorough analysis of economic concepts relevant to cutoff grade determination. The methodology involved evaluating different ore grades to identify which should be processed in mineral processing plants versus those suited for heap leaching. Data from the Sarcheshmeh copper mine were utilized to inform the analysis. The results indicated that the optimal leaching cutoff grade was calculated to be 0.354%, suggesting that ores with grades between 0.15% and 0.354% should be directed to the heap leaching unit for more profitable processing. This finding underscores the importance of accurate economic computations in mine planning and resource allocation in mining operations.
