In this study, we examine the impact of turbulence inhibitors on molten steel flow in tundishes through a combination of physical and mathematical modeling. The objective is to optimize the flow-control arrangement to enhance the contact time of inclusions with the slag layer, vital for improving both productivity and cleanliness in continuous-casting steel production. Utilizing a water model alongside mathematical simulations, we explore how different turbulence-inhibiting devices affect velocity fields, tracer dispersion, and particle trajectories. The results reveal that specific configurations of turbulence inhibitors significantly influence the flow patterns and overall steel quality in large-volume tundishes. By identifying the flow-control system that yields the best performance, we contribute to the existing body of knowledge on effective designs that ensure desired flow rates and stable operating conditions in metallurgical processes. This research highlights the importance of detailed modeling in understanding and optimizing the intricate flow phenomena within tundishes, thereby addressing key challenges in steel manufacturing.
