Detection of mineralized zones based on ores and gangues is important for mine planning and excavation operation. The major goal of this research work was to determine the zones based on ores and gangues by a combination of fractal and factor analysis in the Chah Gaz iron ore deposit located in Central Iran. The Concentration-Volume (C-V) fractal method was applied to the elements Fe, P, and S, leading to the identification of main mineralized zones with Fe, S, and P values of ≥ 57%, ≤ 0.4%, and ≤ 0.3%, respectively. Factor analysis categorized the variables into two groups: factor 1 (F1) related to ore and factor 2 (F2) related to gangue. The results from C-V fractal modeling on these derived factors revealed four distinct zones for F1 and F2. It was concluded that the first and second zones of F1 were suitable for exploitation, while the last and first zones of F1 and F2 were identified as major waste areas for mining excavation. This research highlights the importance of accurately delineating zones within mineral deposits to enhance mining efficiency and environmental considerations.
