Many industry aims to improve quality as well as productivity of manufacturing products. This requires a number of process parameters to be controlled during the casting process to minimize uncertainties and defects faced by organizations. This review paper presents various casting defects and their root causes specific to engine parts during the casting process. It also provides preventive actions to enhance quality and productivity at an industrial level. By highlighting the common types of defects encountered in casting, this paper underscores the necessity for die casters to possess knowledge of these defects, enabling them to identify exact root causes and apply appropriate remedies. The intention of this review is to compile critical information regarding casting-related defects, their causes, and actionable solutions to rectify them, thereby fostering improved practices within the casting industry.
