Abstract

Language:

Fine aggregate is crucial in both concrete and mortar, with river sand as the primary source. The demand for river sand has surged due to a construction boom, leading to increased prices and environmental impacts from over-extraction and improper mining. This study aimed to assess local contractors' usage of manufactured sand as an alternative to river sand and explore other alternatives. A comprehensive questionnaire survey was conducted among large and small-scale contractors. Results revealed that most contractors continue to rely on natural river sand, with limited adoption of manufactured or offshore sand. The primary barrier to using these alternatives is a lack of knowledge among contractors regarding their benefits and availability. This study highlights the necessity for increased awareness and education about alternative fine aggregates to promote sustainable practices in the construction industry.
