In this study, we describe Arthrobacter cryoconiti sp. nov., a psychrophilic bacterium isolated from alpine glacier cryoconite. The aim was to characterize this novel strain, designated Cr6-08T, which exhibited growth at temperatures ranging from 1 to 25°C. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that Ar. cryoconiti sp. nov. is closely related to other members of the genus Arthrobacter. Comprehensive chemotaxonomic analysis revealed that strain Cr6-08T possesses unique properties, including a peptidoglycan type A3a and specific menaquinone and fatty acid profiles. Genomic analysis indicated a G+C content of 57.3 mol%. Based on extensive phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, along with phylogenetic and DNA–DNA relatedness data, we propose that strain Cr6-08T represents a distinct species within the genus Arthrobacter. The type strain is detailed as Cr6-08T, with additional references to its preservation as DSM 23324T, LMG 26052T, and CGMCC 1.10698T. This research enhances our understanding of the biodiversity and ecological role of psychrophilic bacteria in glacial environments.
