Abstract

Language:

As the large scale application of superconductivity advances, there is a growing interest in enhancing the superconducting properties of Ti-Nb alloys through alloying techniques. This study aims to evaluate the effects of third element additions and thermomechanical treatments on the superconducting characteristics of Ti-Nb binary and ternary alloys. Two groups of alloys were prepared: the first group with third elements that retain extensive beta phase regions at elevated temperatures, and the second group with notable eutectoid compositions that included titanium and copper. Through systematic experimentation, the relationship between aging temperatures and critical current density (Jc) was examined, showing that higher niobium concentrations in G-II alloys corresponded with elevated critical temperatures (Tc). Furthermore, it was found that aging reactions proceed more rapidly at approximately 500°C, particularly in alloys with lower niobium content. The results contribute to the understanding of how thermomechanical treatment and specific alloy compositions can optimize superconducting properties, ultimately supporting advancements in applications such as fusion reactors and magnetically levitated vehicles.
