A kinetic study of the fluosilicic acid leaching of galena was performed under the presence of different oxidants. The objective was to understand the effects of various parameters such as fluosilicic acid concentration, agitation speed, concentration of solids and particle size, type and concentration of oxidant, and temperature on the leaching process. The methodology involved empirical experiments to analyze the efficiency of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant and its proportional relationship with concentration, while assessing the impact of temperature and particle size on extraction rate. Results indicated that hydrogen peroxide was the most effective oxidant, and increasing the leaching temperature enhanced overall extraction and rate, similarly, decreasing galena particle size improved the leaching outcome. The study suggested that leaching with hydrogen peroxide is likely controlled by fluid film mass transfer, as inferred from calculated apparent activation energy. Additionally, by-products such as sulfur and related compounds were found to hinder the leaching rate. A mathematical model was proposed and validated against experimental data.
