This study investigates the impact of remineralization on heavy metal leaching from cement-stabilized/solidified (S/S) waste. The primary objective is to quantify how remineralization influences the release of heavy metals, specifically copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and lead (Pb), from solidified waste materials. A series of leaching tests were conducted under varying pH conditions, and the amounts of heavy metals leached over time were measured. Key calculations involved establishing the total amount of solutes leached and the mass balance of materials to ascertain the limiting effects of remineralization. Results demonstrated that the leaching behavior of heavy metals is significantly affected by the pH levels, with distinct patterns observed for each metal. Additionally, the study elucidated the relationship between the physical properties of S/S waste and the efficiency of remineralization in mitigating heavy metal release. The findings underscore the importance of adjusting pH levels to optimize the solidification/stabilization processes and improve environmental safety in waste management practices. The research contributes valuable insights into the effective management of S/S waste materials amidst growing environmental concerns regarding heavy metal contamination.
