Abstract

Language:

Cyclic voltammetric curves were measured using rotating ring-disk (RRDE) and stationary platinum electrodes to investigate ferrate(VI) production. This study analyzed 0.03 M FeO4-, 0.007 M FeO4-, and 0.003 M FeO4- solutions in a 14 M NaOH electrolyte. The research revealed a previously undescribed current plateau ranging from 600 to 675 mV vs. Hg/HgO during positive potential scans in all tested systems, attributed to the oxidation of FeO4- to FeO5-. The current density of this plateau was found to be strongly dependent on the electrolyte temperature, while showing little dependence on the rotational speed of the electrodes. These findings suggest that at least one chemical step is involved in the mechanism of ferrate(VI) formation.
