The urban demographic explosion in developing countries is typically accompanied by segregative phenomena affecting low-income populations, exposing them to various risks. This study explores the segregation phenomenon resulting from the confinement of poor city dwellers in difficult-to-access areas, highlighting numerous associated risks. The objective is to identify segregation patterns, analyze explanatory factors, and evaluate them utilizing appropriate mathematical tools. This approach is illustrated through a case study on Yaounde, where we mapped the socio-spatial segregation and applied cartographic elements to portray segregation in the urban environment. The study also defines the existence of segregation thresholds and evaluates the intensity of segregation within identified domains. This work aims to enhance decision-making in poverty alleviation efforts by providing a detailed understanding of the socio-economic landscapes influencing urban segregation. The findings suggest that any effective poverty intervention relies on prior knowledge of both physical and socio-economic conditions in segregated areas, informing sustainable solutions to combat urban poverty.
