Abstract

Language:

This report investigates the correlations between feed grade and uranium extraction from ores in New Mexico, contributing to understanding the long-range supply of minerals for national economic and strategic needs. The primary objective is to assess how factors such as uranium feed grade, H2SO4 concentration, and NaClO3 concentration impact extraction rates. Using a factorial experimental design, the methodology incorporates four additional ore constituents into regression models to better capture the variability in extraction outcomes. Results demonstrate that, contrary to previous estimates, uranium extractions tend to be higher for lower feed grades, with increasing concentrations of H2SO4 and NaClO3 associated with lower tailing grades and higher extraction rates. Terminal emf and pH trends are consistent across different ore types, although specific results can vary by ore series. This study provides essential insights for optimizing uranium extraction processes and addresses the influence of additional ore components and minerals on extraction efficacy.
