Abstract

Language:

This document presents an executive summary on the design and implementation of a distillation column (T-101) used in the production of 1,3-Butadiene, targeting an output of 50,000 metric tonnes per year. The objective is to purify 1,3-Butadiene effectively from the feed solution, which includes Furfural to maximize separation efficiency. The methodology involves the application of light and heavy key component separation based on their boiling points, utilizing a sieve tray column design due to its enhanced vapor-liquid contact efficiency. The construction utilizes ASTM 304 stainless steel for its excellent corrosion resistance, with a specific thickness and hole diameter calculated for optimal performance. The number of trays has been determined to be 47, and the resulting column dimensions ensure adherence to accepted height-to-diameter ratios. Through rigorous stress analysis, the support structure has also been designed to ensure structural integrity while accounting for corrosive inlet components. The outcomes justify that the design meets chemical and mechanical standards, confirming its suitability for industrial application.
