The aim of this study was to evaluate workplace exposures to potentially harmful chemical agents in an aluminium-welding unit, particularly focusing on particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters less than 10 µm (PM10) and ultrafine particles, along with carbon monoxide (CO) levels. These pollutants have been linked to adverse health effects, including changes in morbidity, respiratory function, and cardiovascular admissions. Recent advances in aerosol measurement technology allow for real-time logging of aerosol concentrations, providing insights that gravimetric methods cannot offer. This study also aimed to compare the effectiveness of real-time aerosol monitoring techniques against the validated Harvard Impactor (HI) and TSI Model 8520 DustTrak Aerosol Monitor for assessing short-term occupational exposure. The results highlighted the necessity to investigate the comparability between these measurement methods, given the implications they have for regulatory compliance and occupational health monitoring in welding environments. There is a growing recognition of the importance of understanding the extent of exposure to these pollutants to develop appropriate risk management strategies for workplace safety.
