Abstract

Language:

The anodic behavior of titanium (Ti) and Ti alloys (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni, Ti-6Al-4V, and Ti-0.2Pd) in hot acid NaCl solution was investigated to understand their electrochemical performance under various conditions. The study aimed to analyze the impact of factors such as pH, chloride ions (c1-), temperature, titanium ions (Ti(III) and Ti(IV)), and dissolved oxygen on the anodic behavior of Ti. Using electrochemical methods, three experimental equations were derived to correlate the critical passivation current density (im) with pH, c1-, and temperature (T). The findings revealed that a mechanism for the active dissolution-passivation of Ti in hot acid NaCl solution was plausible. This research contributes to the existing knowledge regarding the anodic behavior of Ti alloys, which has important implications for their application in the chemical industry, seawater desalination, and long-term disposal of nuclear fuel wastes.
