The compensated carrier PWM synchronization (CCPS) method for ac-fed PWM converters is presented. The method provides a solution to PWM converters fed by industrial power systems (IPS) that typically experience unbalances and magnitude fluctuations at voltages, leading to the generation of low-order harmonics such as the second harmonic, thus impairing standard PWM techniques. To mitigate these effects, a novel approach utilizing independently compensated carriers per phase is proposed. This CCPS method effectively prevents second harmonic generation and enhances converter self-regulation, making it applicable with any PWM technique and for bidirectional power flow. A comprehensive performance comparison between a PWM rectifier employing CCPS and one without it has been conducted across various known PWM techniques, showcasing significant improvements in output quality and system stability. The results indicate that implementing the CCPS method can significantly reduce undesirable effects in ac-fed PWM converters, thus presenting a robust solution for enhancing the performance of power conversion systems in industrial settings.
