Abstract

Language:

Circulating Fluidized Beds (CFB) are vessels where solids are transported upward by a gas stream and subsequently recycled to the bottom. This review describes CFB operating regimes within this definition and highlights commercial processes utilizing CFB technology along with potential applications. A thorough understanding of gas and solids hydrodynamics is essential for process design and development, particularly in terms of solids hold-up, mixing, and velocity distribution. The review discusses various techniques for measuring solids mass flux, a critical parameter for design and control. Recent advancements in experimental techniques for measuring spatial and temporal gas and solid distributions are examined, alongside a description of various modeling approaches that have materialized based on these new data. However, data characterization remains incomplete, necessitating further refinement of existing models to accurately predict the influence of scale, operating conditions, and particle characteristics on hydrodynamics.
