This study presents a new electrorefining technology for copper that employs a novel manifold electrolyte inlet aimed at enhancing productivity and cathode quality in both new and existing tankhouses. The objective was to achieve significant improvements in current efficiency and productivity, addressing limitations faced by traditional methods. The methodology involved the installation of this manifold system at two sites, Montanwerke Brixlegg AG in Austria and Xiangguang Copper in China, where current densities exceeding 400 A/m² were tested. Results indicated that the application of parallel electrolyte flow through manifold technology led to higher current efficiencies and improved deposit quality, facilitating a more homogeneous electrolyte distribution around the cathodes. Such advancements suggest that this new technology can effectively upgrade existing electrorefining facilities while also providing a robust solution for new installations, thereby marking a significant evolution in copper electrorefining processes.
