Abstract

Language:

The variability of the solar resource is mainly caused by cloud passing, leading to rapid power fluctuations which can challenge energy management strategies. This study aims to implement a photovoltaic self-consumption and ramp-rate control algorithm using a vanadium redox flow battery. The methodology comprises the integration of day-to-day forecast charging profiles with the energy management strategy to optimize the utilization of solar energy and maintain grid stability. Results indicate that the proposed approach improves self-consumption ratios and enhances the stability of power supply by efficiently managing the charging and discharging processes of the battery in response to solar generation variations. The findings emphasize the effectiveness of integrating storage solutions like vanadium redox flow batteries in enhancing renewable energy utilization and addressing the intermittency of solar power. This study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable energy management practices in the context of increasing renewable energy penetration in power systems.
