Abstract

Language:

This study addresses the scarcity of paleogeographic time markers in crystalline basement areas, which limits understanding of their temporal evolution. The primary objective is to investigate albitization as a potential tool for developing time markers for reconstruction of basement erosion. Albitization is the alteration process that involves the replacement of primary igneous feldspars by secondary albite, and it is particularly abundant in the European Palaeozoic basement. The methodology involves a comprehensive analysis of samples from the Sudetic Crystalline Massif in Poland, focusing on sedimentary and crystalline rocks. The results reveal that the albitization process is critical for correlating geological events and understanding the evolution of the continental basement. This research highlights the importance of albitization in establishing geological timelines and its implications for future studies in paleogeography and geosciences. It underscores the need for further exploration and characterization of alteration processes in crystalline basement areas to enhance the understanding of their geological history.
