Abstract

Language:

Ti-3AR (Ti-Al-Mo-Ni) is a newly developed corrosion-resistant titanium alloy featuring higher strength, which has been synthesized by the Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research in China. This study aims to investigate the mechanical and corrosion-resistant properties of Ti-3AR in comparison to Ti-12. The methodology includes experimental procedures involving the preparation of Ti-3AR plates and corrosion testing in various acidic environments, including nitric, hydrochloric, and sulfuric acids, at different concentrations and temperatures. The results reveal that Ti-3AR exhibits mechanical properties with a yield strength greater than 480 MPa and tensile strength surpassing 720 MPa, demonstrating good corrosion resistance comparable to Ti-12 across tested environments. Electrochemical measurements indicate critical insights into the passivation behavior of Ti-3AR, with the alloy showing increased corrosion resistance in higher concentrations of sulfuric and hydrochloric acids at varying temperatures. Consequently, Ti-3AR presents a potent alternative for applications in demanding environments, particularly in marine engineering and the chemical industry, due to its superior corrosion resistance and workability.
