The interaction between a lower hybrid wave and a fusion alpha particle displaces the alpha particle simultaneously in space and energy, resulting in coupled diffusion. Diffusion of alphas down the density gradient could lead to their transferring energy to the wave, which could, in turn, facilitate energy input into current drive. An initial analytic study was previously conducted by Fisch and Rax. In this report, we calculate numerical solutions for the alpha energy transfer, examining a range of conditions that favor wave amplification from alpha energy. Our findings demonstrate that it is indeed feasible for fusion alpha particles to transfer a substantial fraction of their energy.
