Abstract

Language:

The conventional flotation can't provide fair results when applied to very low grade ores or to "refractory" ores, characterized by intimate and nonuniform mineral associations, high soluble salt content, and various preactivated minerals. This study investigates bacterial oxidation as a novel method for recovering metals, particularly gold, from low-grade chalcocite ores. The goal is to improve metal recovery rates using bioleaching techniques. Methodologically, the research utilizes microorganisms, specifically thiobacillus ferrooxidans and leptospirillum ferrooxidans, to enhance metal recovery from the chalcopyrite ore. The results demonstrate significant recoveries, achieving up to 85% gold recovery and 80% silver recovery from the low-grade ores. This underscores the effectiveness of microbial leaching for extracting precious metals from complex ore types, presenting an alternative to conventional flotation methods that struggle with low-grade mineral deposits.
