The physico-chemical properties and reactivity of ZnS:Mn (1% Mn) nanoparticles were investigated to elucidate the distribution degree of Mn atoms. Employing methods such as electron spin resonance (ESR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), measurement of specific surface area, and assessment of reactivity in sulfuric acid (H2SO4), a compelling correlation was found between the preparatory history, the shape of the ESR spectra, and the reactivity of the ZnS:Mn nanoparticles. This study emphasizes the significance of having a homogeneous distribution of Mn 2+ ions within the zinc sulfide lattice, which is essential for achieving high-efficiency luminescence in nanocrystallites. The results contribute to the understanding of the synthesis processes and properties of Mn-doped ZnS nanomaterials, potentially impacting their application in electroluminescent thin-film displays.
