This paper presents strategies to improve energy efficiency and productivity in copper electrowinning (EW) plants. The objective is to enhance operational performance by incorporating updated technical data and measurements gathered during a complete production cycle at an industrial EW plant. Methodologically, the study involved modeling the plant's operations, focusing on the use of Optibar intercell bars and reducing the distance between electrodes, which were key proposals for improving efficiency. Results indicate that these changes can lead to a +34.3% increase in energy efficiency and a +3.4% increase in production levels, translating to an estimated economic benefit of U.S.$ 10 million per year for the plant. The findings highlight the potential of these strategies in optimizing resource use and operational outputs in electrowinning processes.
