This report presents the findings of a study investigating the chemistry of leachate from solid mine-waste composite samples collected from two locations: southwestern New Mexico and Leadville, Colorado. The main objective of this research was to apply the Synthetic Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP) to analyze the chemical composition of the leachate generated from these mine-waste samples. A comprehensive methodology was utilized, which involved the collection of composite samples and the implementation of SPLP, adapted from the modified E.P.A. method 1312. The results indicate significant variations in the leachate chemistry between the two sites, highlighting the influence of geochemical conditions on leachate quality. Specific parameters analyzed include pH, specific conductance, metals, and anions, with quality control measures in place for ensuring data accuracy. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the environmental implications of mine-waste management and provide a foundation for future investigations into the leaching behavior of such materials. This preliminary report serves as a critical resource for researchers and stakeholders involved in environmental monitoring and remediation efforts related to mining activities.
