In this paper, the improvement in power factor of induction motors by using a capacitor bank is represented with the help of a MATLAB simulation model. The objective is to demonstrate how enhancing the power factor can lead to energy savings, which is a crucial goal for electrical utility companies. Low power factors necessitate a greater current supply to meet energy demands, resulting in increased line losses. Induction motors, known for their reliability and cost-effectiveness, account for 70% to 80% of global electricity consumption. This paper discusses the characteristics of induction motors, particularly their low power factor at no load, which improves as the load increases. To rectify the power factor, capacitors can be added in parallel with motor circuits at optimal sizes and locations, either at the starter or distribution panel. The findings emphasize the significance of power factor correction in industrial applications, aiming to achieve better efficiency and reduce losses in electrical distribution networks.
