In this project, the production of 50,000 metric tonnes of butadiene per year is explored, emphasizing the design and analysis of the separator vessel (V-101) used in the process. The objective of this study is to develop an efficient design for the butadiene production process that adheres to safety and operational standards. A detailed methodology is carried out, including the development of process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams, along with a comprehensive analysis of the stream table involving various operating conditions. Key parameters such as temperature, pressure, vapor fraction, and mass flow rates are meticulously calculated to assess the performance of the separation unit. Results indicate the feasibility of producing butadiene at the desired capacity, showcasing optimized flow rates and component concentration across various phases in the separation vessel. The findings contribute to the overall understanding of butadiene production, paving the way for further research and advancements in chemical engineering practices. This design project aims to enhance efficiency in production processes while adhering to industry standards.
