Abstract

Language:

Alloy 22 (N06022) is a nickel-based alloy known for its high corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing environments. This study aims to examine the corrosion behavior of Alloy 22 in 1M NaCl solutions across a range of pH values, from acidic to neutral, at an elevated temperature of 90ºC. Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), various tests were conducted, including evaluations in NaCl solutions augmented with oxalic and acetic acids. The findings indicate that the corrosion rate of Alloy 22 increased in the presence of oxalic acid compared to an HCl-acidified solution of identical pH. Conversely, acetic acid demonstrated no corrosive effect on the alloy. The enhanced corrosivity observed with oxalic acid is attributed to its ability to form stable complex species with metallic cations present in Alloy 22. These results provide insights into the stability and application of Alloy 22 in environments that may be influenced by organic acids.
