This study investigates the effects of intrafibrillar silicified collagen scaffolds on monocyte behavior and their implications for cell homing, angiogenesis, and bone regeneration. The objective was to determine how these scaffolds modulate monocyte responses that are critical for tissue regeneration. The methodology involved in vitro experiments assessing monocyte activation and cytokine secretion in response to the scaffolds. Key cytokines such as VEGF, SDF-1α, TGF-β1, and PDGF-BB were analyzed at various time points to evaluate their expression patterns. Results indicated that the silicified scaffolds significantly enhance monocyte cytokine secretion, promoting angiogenic processes and increasing cell migration towards the scaffold area. The findings suggest that the unique properties of the intrafibrillar silicified collagen scaffold not only provide structural support but also actively modulate immune responses, thereby facilitating regeneration processes. This research underscores the potential of these biomaterials in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering applications.
