An Ants System is an artificial system inspired by the behavior of real ant colonies, designed to address combinatorial optimization problems through a distributed algorithm involving cooperating agents known as ants. This paper introduces a novel distributed algorithm, termed the General Ant System, specifically aimed at solving such problems by mapping the solution space correspondingly to the paths the ants would traverse. Additionally, transition probabilities within the Ant System are determined based on the objectives of the Combinatorial Optimization Problems tackled. The effectiveness of this approach is assessed against two specific optimization challenges: Graph Partitioning and the Traveling Salesman Problem. Results demonstrate that the proposed system performs comparably to previous ant-based algorithms in terms of performance, thereby confirming its efficacy in tackling combinatorial optimization tasks.
