This work presents a comparative study of two collectors, T3Y and MLQ1, with the aim of optimizing the recovery of valuable metals, copper and cobalt, from the oxidized historical tailings of Gécamines at backfill R 062. An overall sample was prepared, characterized, subjected to grinding tests, and then to two flotation test campaigns: an orientation series varying the dose of sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH) and a second series varying the collectors T3Y and MLQ1. Orientation tests showed that the optimal NaSH dose for metal recovery is 3680 g/t, yielding grades of 2.67% Cu and 0.30% Co, and recoveries of 84.22% Cu and 64.86% Co. Collector T3Y produced grades of 2.73% Cu and 0.15% Co, with recoveries of 81.25% Cu and 54.10% Co at a dose of 418 g/t. Collector MLQ1 gave grades of 3.21% Cu and 0.19% Co, and recoveries of 85.22% Cu and 55.24% Co at a dose of 100 g/t.
