The performance of electrocoagulation, utilizing an aluminium sacrificial anode, was investigated for the treatment of wastewater containing metal ion Cr(VI). This study aimed to identify optimal working parameters, including pH, current density, and metal ion concentrations, to enhance removal capacities. Experiments conducted with synthetic wastewater indicated that maximum removal efficiency occurred at pH levels between 4 and 8. Additionally, an increase in current density, ranging from 0.8 to 4.8 Adm−2, significantly improved the treatment rate without compromising the electrochemical charge loading necessary to meet legal discharge limits for metal ion concentrations. The findings demonstrated the feasibility of this electrocoagulation process for effective hexavalent chromium reduction, contributing to cleaner industrial effluents and addressing environmental pollution challenges.
