This paper presents an investigation into power factor correction circuits aimed at achieving sinusoidal line currents, particularly focusing on a single-phase AC/DC converter with enabling window control. The objective is to analyze the performance of continuous conduction mode (CCM) power factor correction converters and demonstrate high-performance regulation with satisfactory line current harmonics using conventional duty-ratio control. The methodology includes implementing zero voltage switching, zero current switching, and active snubber approaches to reduce reverse recovery losses, while employing line frequency commutation techniques to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and soft switching. It is shown that employing asymmetrical pulse width modulation techniques can reduce total harmonic distortion to below 3.8%. The results indicate that efficiency levels can exceed 96.5% utilizing Cool MOSFETs and SiC diodes, thereby achieving competitive pricing. Experimental validation is provided based on results from a 500W prototype, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed methods in enhancing power factor and efficiency in AC/DC conversion applications.
