At the copper smelting plant of JSC Almalyk MMC, technological solutions containing 60-90 g/l of copper and 15-25 g/l of nickel are formed in the process of copper sulfate production. The technological solutions were investigated using physical and chemical treatment methods, focusing on the pH value of metal hydroxide deposition. Copper undergoes deep electrolysis, while nickel remains unrecovered due to the absence of cost-effective technology. This study examines the potential for separate extraction of copper and nickel from these solutions through precipitation with milk of lime. To improve the mixing of solution, the copper-containing precipitate is separated via a two-stage precipitation. The results indicate that within the two precipitation stages, with the addition of milk of lime at a pH of 5.5-6, the deposition rates achieved are 98% for copper and 6.5% for nickel, thereby facilitating nickel's extraction. The discovered technological solutions provide opportunities for application in other industries concerned with processing copper-containing products.
