Abstract

Language:

Emotional intelligence (EI) has long been treated as a skill, with researchers asserting that this ability fosters emotional and intellectual growth. This study aimed to evaluate the emotional intelligence of students at the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Tepeca campus, through a questionnaire administered to 400 students (206 women and 194 men). Utilizing a Likert scale from 1 to 5, Pearson's correlation was applied for multivariate analysis, leading to questionnaire validation. The results revealed that the Anger variable received the lowest approval rating at 15%, attributed to being the only negative question among 19 positive ones. The second lowest variable was defiance, achieving 70% approval across its inferences. Conversely, three variables scored the highest approval ratings at 95%: 1) Participation, indicating that students express their viewpoints honestly; 2) Contribution to society, suggesting students believe their daily work adds societal value; and 3) Letting go of the past, reflecting the ability to move forward by leaving problems and memories behind. Overall, it was concluded that students at the TecNM Tepeca campus effectively apply emotional intelligence.
