Abstract

Language:

This article illustrates the life and work of Prof. Galileo Ferraris, an Italian engineer and scientist who dedicated his life to the study of electricity and its applications in the 19th century. The objective is to discuss his significant contributions across various engineering disciplines and his efforts in disseminating electrical knowledge. The methodology involves a review of Ferraris's publications and noteworthy laboratory experiences from 1870 to 1897. The results highlight his pioneering role in developing the alternating current distribution system and induction motor, alongside his foundational contributions to electrical education, notably the establishment of Italy's first electrotechnics school at the Politecnico di Torino. Ferraris’s original works remain accessible through digital repositories, underscoring his lasting impact on the field of electrical engineering and energy transmission. His legacy continues to influence modern electricity production and distribution methods today.
