This study examines the significant environmental challenges posed by the non-ferrous metallurgy industry, particularly focusing on the recycling of copper slag produced during pyrometallurgical processes. The objective is to evaluate the potential for improving environmental protection through effective waste management strategies. Methodologically, the research analyzes the composition of copper slag and the economic viability of recycling processes in comparison to primary ore extraction. Results indicate that with copper concentrations in slags exceeding those found in raw materials, specifically converter and oxy-furnace slags, recycling presents both a feasible economic opportunity and a sustainable environmental solution. Moreover, the growing volume of slag necessitates effective storage management to mitigate landscape degradation and ecological impact. The findings suggest that by implementing innovative recycling techniques, the non-ferrous metallurgy sector can significantly reduce environmental harm while maximizing resource recovery from industrial waste. This research contributes to the academic discourse on sustainable practices within heavy industries and offers insights into the potential for increased efficiency in metal recovery.
